Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 Specifications Review Pros and Cons

Hey guys, today I've got the new Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 or maybe it's just Active Watch 2, it's a lot of words,so I'm just going to go with Active 2, because that's what everyone's really, gonna call it. And I'm gonna put it through its paces from a sports/fitness, kind of technology standpoint. And not so much from like a general usage, standpoint.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2

I'm,gonna talk about sports. That's what I do! I'm going to talk about things like is, the new heart rate sensor better? Is GPS improved? Are the UI, are all the apps, better from sports and fitness standpoint? Has anything changed there? It's only been like six or seven months since the last version came out. So I'm,gonna talk all about that.

But before I do that I want to briefly touch, on the digital bezel, mostly because I'm seeing a lot of people do it wrong. Now the catch is a lot of people don't realize it's actually not enable by default. So I'm going to show you how to enable that really quick. Simply swipe down first, click the little Settings icon there. Go down to advanced. And then within, advanced you will see 'Touch "Bezel". In my case I've turned on. Now obviously I could turn, it off right there, and that's really how you get that touch bezel working.

With the Galaxy Watch Active 2, Samsung continues to improve its health- and workout-monitoring tools as it explores other applications like translation and video playback. Most intriguing of all (to those familiar with Samsung's watch lineup anyway), the Watch Active 2 brings back the company's hallmark spinning bezel. Sort of.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch Active is the spiritual younger sibling of the company's flagship smartwatch, and retains most of the software features and battery life but skimps out on the iconic rotating bezel. However, considering that the Watch Active is significantly cheaper than most full-fledged smartwatches, and has ample fitness-related functionality, it’s difficult to find anyone the Galaxy Watch Active isn’t suited to.

The Galaxy Watch Active 2 is one of the best smartwatches you can find for under $300. It boasts a robust set of features, including health-tracking, music controls, messaging and more. Those looking for more sophisticated fitness tools might prefer a Garmin or Fitbit, but the casual user will be satisfied with Samsung’s latest.

Pros

  • Upgraded sensors are fast and accurate
  • Tizen OS is useful
  • Touch-sensitive bezel works well
  • Offers a lot for the price

Cons

  • Disappointing battery life
  • Workout tracking could be more comprehensive

Bottom Line

While the original Watch Active felt like a first-generation product, the Galaxy Watch Active 2 is a product that proves Samsung is listening to user feedback. The touch-sensitive bezel really helps with the overall experience, and there's now LTE connectivity for those who need it. All in all, it's a good all-around smartwatch.

Just be sure you're buying it for the right reasons. It might be able to track your fitness, but it's not the most accurate fitness watch you can buy. Not even close. Blood pressure monitoring is wonky too, and Samsung's app ecosystem is lacking compared to the competition.

If you're in need of a solid Wear OS alternative, the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 is a great choice. Ironically, just don't buy it for the "active" features.
